This was a mistake, because instead of just letting him be and leaving the coaching to his coaches, who are excellent, I was taking the fun out of it by putting pressure on him. Last night I signed him up for a speed skating class and asked him if I could do it with him. At first he did not like the idea, but my wife convinced him to give it a chance. We got to the rink and the lady asked me if I wanted to help coach the class, I declined--today I was going to be a student with my son. We went out on the ice as two hockey players, we ran through the same drills, complimented each other, and best of all we had a blast. We bonded like never before with respect to hockey.
